How to Consolidate Two Households

Congratulations, you’re getting married! While planning the wedding is stress enough on its own, consolidating your two households presents its own set of challenges. Thankfully, we have the tips to get you moving in together!

Take Inventory

What do you have? Make a list of your assets and theirs. There’s no point in having three coffeemakers – choose which items to keep and which to sell or donate. Where there is disagreement on whose couch is truly the best, consider getting rid of both and purchasing something entirely new for the both of you.

Pack Smart

Kitchen gadgets should be labeled clearly. Clothes should have directions on where to put the box. By denoting where everything goes, you’ll make moving day flow smoothly.

Store Everything Else

There might be a few things that you’re not quite ready to get rid of, but also don’t fit in your new home. This is where proper storage for extra gear comes in really handy. Good basement storage, such as wire shelving, allows you to place these not-quite-unwanted items out of sight.

Have a Garage Sale

A garage sale is not only a great way to get rid of unwanted stuff, it’s also a wonderful way to meet your new neighbors. Pro tip: live with your consolidated household for a couple of months before holding the garage sale. That way you have a better idea of what you do and don’t need to sell.
