Limit yourself to adding four or five units in the room. A
desk, chair, shelves, filing cabinet and small table should provide plenty of workspace without closing off your office. Each of these should designate an area for different projects.
Keep your
desk free of everything but a computer, the current task, and a few small supplies. Put outdated or unusable documents in a small recycling bin. Stack file cabinets in the corner and sort files with labels.
Shelf bins or containers also act as great organizing tools so use them for smaller supplies.
A small table should act as an extra area for non-work related projects such as paying bills or a place for your child to do arts and crafts. A few
wall-mounted shelves will also help you store items that are used often while keeping them out of your way. Also, be sure to place a small garbage bin under the desk for trash.
Once you have picked out the ideal layout of your office, arrange it so that it is open and comfortable. After that, the most difficult part is keeping it clean. Put supplies in their proper areas and get rid of unusable items as soon as you are finished with them. The more organized your work space is, the faster you can finish your work.
