Can you cut posts into custom heights?
Yes. Call us at 800.637.9508 to place a custom post height order. Custom cut posts are an additional $3.50 each ($14 for a set of 4) and can be cut to any size. Your custom posts will arrive with posts caps installed for a finished look.
Are the shelf clips included in the price of the shelves and shelving kits?
Yes! All of our extra and specialty shelves and wire shelving kits come with shelf clips at no additional cost. If you need to buy shelf clips separately, you can purchase them here.
How thick are the wires on your wire shelving?
The wires on the sides (metal truss and upper frame) are .197" thick. The lower frame is .236" thick. The wire rungs are .134" thick. The angled truss support is
How do I purchase a wire shelving kit that is a different size than what you offer?
You can make any size wire shelving unit with any number of shelves by purchasing the size posts you need and the number/size shelves you need (shelf clips are included). We have a Design Your Own page that has everything to build your custom unit.
Is your wire shelving hard to put together?
No. Our wire shelving requires no tools for assembly. Simply attach post clips to the notch on the posts you want your shelf on, slide the shelf down onto the clips, and push (or use a rubber mallet) to secure the shelf. Repeat the process for units with more shelves. Our products come with an easy assembly guide to help you through the process. We also have shelving assembly videos that demonstrate the process.
Can I add casters to my wire shelving unit? Which ones are the right ones?
Yes, casters can be easily installed to a new or pre-existing unit. Read our tips for choosing the perfect caster to help you make the right decision for your unit.
Can I add another shelf to my wire shelving unit?
Yes, you can add as many shelves as you can fit on the posts. Just make sure you will have enough vertical space for the items you wish to store. We carry individual shelves (complete with shelf clips) that you can add to your shelving unit.
Do I have to have a shelf at the bottom?
If you choose not to have a bottom shelf, we recommend that you support the posts with 3 or 4 hanger rails along the depth and width of the bottom. Installing triangle footplates and/or post wall brackets can also help to stabilize a unit without a bottom shelf.
How are SI brand shelves measured?
Our Wire Shelving dimensions are outside to outside of the shelf which includes the post hole. The depth is front to back and the width is left to right.
What is the distance between the shelves?
Our Wire Shelving posts have notches every inch that allow shelves to be adjusted, so you can make the space between your shelves as short or tall as you need them to be!
What is the difference between your SI Wire Shelving and Metro Wire Shelving?
Our wire shelving is manufactured to the same specifications and grade of steel as Metro, meaning they have the same weight capacity. The Super Erecta Metro line we carry has levers that allow for easy shelf adjustment. However, our SI brand has far more sizes to choose from since we stock our brand in bulk. If you put SI brand and Metro side by side you really couldn't tell the difference but our SI brand is more budget friendly because of our bulk quantities.
What are the black rings in the packaging? Are they a part of the shelf?
The black rings in the packaging keep the shelves in place during transit. They are not a part of the shelf, so you can dispose of them if you wish.
What parts make up a post?
Here is an illustration of our posts' anatomy. Note: all posts over 54" in length come in two pieces that are held together by a connector (as shown in the picture). Smaller posts will not have this piece because they do not ship in two pieces.

How long will it take to receive my order?
If you're buying an in-stock item, your order will usually ship out same day if you order it before 2-3pm Eastern, or else the next business day. Once it ships, you can expect the delivery between 2-10 business days depending on where you live. Check the UPS Shipping Time Map to see how long it should take for your location. If the item is shipped by a vendor, you can look at the product page to see if a shipping time is listed.
Can I get free shipping?
We offer several products with free shipping, like the Prepac furniture line. In order to get you the best value, we are unable to offer free shipping on our SI Wire Shelving as it would mean raising our prices. Free shipping is only available to the contiguous 48 states.
How is my order packaged?
Here at The Shelving Store we take extra special care with our packaging. We are unique in that we use corner guards on our packages in order to protect them from damage. If one of our products gets damaged by shipping, you can send it back within 60 days for a refund. Check out our Return Policy for more information.
But be aware that we only ship certain products from our warehouse, including SI wire shelving, Umbra, lockers, locker accessories, transparent liners, and wire shelving accessories. Other products on our site are shipped from our vendors, and thus are not packaged by us.
How do I change my shipping address?
Login to The Shelving Store under My Account and select Change Shipping Address. Select the order that you would like to edit. This will bring you to the Order Details page. Then click Change under the Ship To address and enter the new address. If you're still having trouble, call us at 800.637.9508 for assistance.
If you want to add, edit or delete a shipping address on your profile (not for a singular order), go to the My Account page and choose Manage Your Shipping Addresses.
Where do you ship from?
We ship primarily from Madison Heights, MI, but also from Auburn Hills, MI. Many of our products are shipped from other vendors, so they ship from different locations throughout the US.
Why is shipping so high?
Wire shelving is heavy and oftentimes very large, thus shipping can get a bit pricey. Rest assured that we try to keep the shipping costs and the costs of our wire shelving as low as possible.
Do you deliver orders outside of the US and Canada?
At this time, we only ship orders to destination in the United States, US territories, and Canada. In select cases, we may not be able to ship an order to Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, or Canada. If you reside in Canada and would like to place an order you must contact our Canadian shipping specialist Michele at 248-547-2400 or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org, as we don't allow Canadian shipping orders to be placed directly by customers.
An item is missing from my shipment or is missing parts. What do I do?
Click the My Account link at the top right hand side of our site login if you haven't and choose Review orders / track packages. Be sure that all of the items in your order have shipped already. If you order displays Tracking Numbers, check with the shipper to confirm that your packages were delivered. If your packages each show a status of "delivered", please contact customer service for assistance.
How do I change quantities or cancel an item in my order?
Click the My Account link at the top right hand side of our site (and login if you haven't) to view orders you have placed. Then choose the Change quantities / cancel orders link to find and edit your order. Please note that once an order has begun processing or has shipped, the order is no longer editable.
My order never arrived. What's up with that?
Click the My Account link at the top right hand side of our site login if you haven't and choose Review orders / track packages. If you order displays Tracking Numbers, check with the shipper to confirm that your shipment is on the way. If your packages each show a status of delivered, please contact customer service for assistance.
How much is my shipping?
Shipping is automatically calculated prior to submitting your payment information. Simply add items to your cart and proceed to the Checkout page where you will be offered Shipping Method choices and their prices.
What is your return policy?
Items returned within 30 days of original purchase are eligible for refunds, (less the shipping cost). Items must be in the original packaging and the product must not be damaged. Items sold as clearance are considered final sale. Lost, defective or damaged products can be replaced or returned also within 30 days, but a photo of the damage is required for processing. Once the item is received, we will then process credit to the original form of payment. Call the customer service department at 800.637.9508 for returns. What happens if my shipment arrives damaged?
We thoroughly inspect our products before we ship them out. However if Items are damaged in shipping, you should contact us and send a picture of the damage via mail or email@example.com. We will then tell you how to return your goods and ship a replacement. For more information, see our Return Policy.
How long does it take to receive a refund for my return?
Refunds usually take 7-10 business days from the time we receive your return.
How do I return a purchase?

Do I need to create an account or can I checkout as a guest?
You can check out as a guest, however, we recommend that you create an account so that you can track your order. Creating an account allows you to easily edit, track, and manage your order through our My Account page. You will also have your contact and shipping information saved if you choose, making your next visit a breeze!
How can I pay for my purchase?
We accept VISA, Master Card, American Express, Discover, Pay Pal, and Google Checkout.
How do I enter a coupon code?
You can enter a coupon code on the shopping cart page. Just scroll down past the items list and you'll see a big blue box that says "Coupon Code? Enter it here" and type in or paste your code. Please note that in order to see this, you need to have at least 1 item in your cart.
Do you have coupon codes?
Yes, we always have a few coupon codes to snag you a better deal! Check our homepage banners for our current deals, or sign up for our newsletter for 10% off.
Can I combine coupons?
Unfortunately, only 1 coupon code can be used per order. Some sales do not require a coupon code (the banner will say if this is the case) so you can also one a coupon code in addition to the sale price.
Why doesn’t my coupon code work?
First, check to make sure that the product in your cart applies to the conditions of the code. The sale banner will say what is on sale. You can also click the banner to go into the sale category - is the product in your cart in this category? If it is not, it is most likely not a part of the sale. If it is in this category or you strongly believe that there is an error, please call, email, or chat with us to let us know!
Will I be charged sales tax on my order?
The tax rate you are charged is based on where your order is being shipped. We charge sales tax on orders shipping to locations in Michigan, because we are located in Michigan. The sales tax rate for the state of Michigan is 6%. Orders that are being shipped to any other destination than Michigan are not taxed, even if the billing address is located in Michigan

Is there a warranty on Shelving, Inc. products?
